Sometimes Even the “Good” Things can Become Heavy.

There’s something I’ve been noticing lately.
Even the things that are good for us… can start to feel heavy.
Walking.
Journaling.
The gym.
Self-development.
Inner work.
Helping others.
All of these things have been a huge part of my life. They’ve helped me grow, shift, and become the person I am today.
At some point, I realised they can quietly turn into something else.
Not intentionally.
Not overnight.
But slowly.
They go from being something we choose…
to something we just do.
And that’s where it gets interesting.
Because even the most nourishing habits can become… a bit of a chore.
A routine.
An expectation.
A box we tick.
Almost like we’ve swapped one autopilot for another, and that’s ok, it’s about noticing ✨
I remember speaking to someone who had journaled every single day since they were nine years old; he was 74.
On one hand, that’s incredible.
On the other, I couldn’t help but wonder…
Was it still intentional?
Or just something that had become part of who they believed they had to be?
And it got me thinking about my own life.
How often do we keep doing something simply because it’s what we’ve always done… or what we believe we should do?
Even when it started from a really good place?
This isn’t about stopping the things that support us.
It’s about noticing when they stop feeling like support, and start feeling like pressure.
Because awareness changes everything.
When something becomes automatic, it loses its power.
And for me, I realised I needed to bring something back.
Not more structure.
Not more discipline.
Not more “doing the right thing”.
But space.
Small, intentional pockets of time with no agenda.
No plan.
No outcome.
No pressure to be productive.
Just space.
To pause.
To notice.
To breathe.
To be.
I’ve started calling them little “PIER Pockets”.
Not as another habit to stick to, but as a way to bring intention back into the moment.
Because the truth is, it’s not what we do that matters most.
It’s how consciously we do it.
You can walk every day… and not notice a thing.
You can journal every day… and not feel any different.
You can go to the gym, do the inner work, show up for others…
And still feel disconnected.
Or…
You can pause for a moment.
Check in.
Notice what’s going on for you.
Realign, even slightly.
And suddenly everything shifts.
This isn’t about doing more.
It’s about doing things from a place that actually feels like you.
So if you’ve ever felt like you’re doing all the “right things”…
But something still feels a little off…
Maybe it’s not about adding anything else.
Maybe it’s about creating a little bit of space.
And seeing what comes back to you when you do.
Remember, it’s all about You 💛
