The Coffee That Changed My Morning

When you pause, you create space for connection, inspiration, and moments that remind you what really matters.
My morning didn’t go exactly to plan, and I’m so glad it didn’t.

After a restless night, I allowed myself a little extra time in bed. No guilt, just tuning in to what my body needed. I eased into my rhythm with some water, warm lemon, a splash of coffee, and a 20-minute home workout (yes, dancing included!).
My intention was to settle into a coffee shop post-appointment to work on The PIER Method… but the universe had something else in mind.
On my way there, I bumped into Alec, someone I hadn’t seen in quite a while.
“Fancy a coffee?” he asked.
My default would’ve been: “Sorry, I’m just busy.”
But this time, I paused.
And I said yes.
I’m so grateful I did.
A Conversation Worth Savouring
Over coffee, Alec shared that he’d just returned from visiting his daughter in Australia. He lit up as he talked about her life there, proud, joyful, beaming. He showed me photos, his whole being softened with love and awe.
Alec is 72. And honestly? He looks about 65, max. There’s a lightness about him, an energy that feels magnetic.
Ten years ago, Alec had a heart attack. A heavy smoker at the time, he was rushed in for emergency treatment and had two stents fitted. He never touched a cigarette again. That moment became his pivot point.
He joined the gym. Started swimming half an hour every day. It wasn’t easy at first, but it became part of him. He walks daily. Takes care of himself, but doesn’t deny himself the joy in life, either.
His daughter used to worry about his health. Now, he says with a smile:
“It feels good to show her that I’m really looking after myself now.”
A Life Realigned
Alec spent his working life on building sites; hard graft and a lifestyle to match. Yet here he is, ten years into his realigned chapter: calm, healthy, joyful, present.
His story reminded me why I do what I do. Why the Pause, Inhale, Exhale, Realign of The PIER Method matters so deeply. Why saying yes to connection, even when it’s unplanned, can change more than just your morning.
Reflection Prompt for You:
💭 When was the last time you said yes to something unplanned… and found something beautiful waiting on the other side?
